Katarzyna Mycka (Poland/Germany)

World-renowned Polish marimba virtuoso and chamber musician, was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).
She got her education at music academies in Gdansk, Stuttgart, and Salzburg.
She won numerous prizes and awards at international music competitions including First Prize and Audience Prize at the International Percussion Competition for Marimba Solo (Luxembourg , 1995) and First place at the First World Marimba Competition (Stuttgart, 1996).
As a soloist Katarzyna Mycka participated in the most important marimba festivals (Osaka, 1998; Linz, 2004; Minneapolis, 2010).
She performs solo parts with the orchestras all over the world, from Poland and Germany to Colombia and China.
Katarzyna Mycka emphatically promotes the popularization of the marimba: she participates in juries at international competitions, dedicates a lot of time collaborating with composers, as a result – numerous concerts and solo pieces for marimba were personally dedicated to her.
In 2003 she established International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy (IKMMA).
The artist’s multifaceted solo program includes not only transcriptions of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach or Sergei Prokofiev, but also original compositions by contemporary composers such as Emmanuel Séjourné and Anna Ignatowicz-Glinska.
